- Brett, Reginald Baliol, 2nd Viscount Esher
(1852-1930)
Educated at Eton College College and Trinity College, Cambridge, he succeeded his father in 1899. He became liberal member of Parliament for Falmouth in 1880. He refused several lucrative and influential posts and instead made reforming the army his priority. He was deputy governor, then governor, of Windsor Castle. He and A.C. Benson edited Queen Victoria's papers, The Correspondence of Queen Victoria (1907). He may not have been great poet, but some lines of "At Swindon" show a tender poignancy as he reminisces about the ten years since they last spoke, but the tears remain just as hot.
